![]() You don’t need to drive stick, for instance. Mudrunner is a simulator, but it doesn’t force you to fully utilize the very complex mechanics of a real truck. With the exception of a pretty terrible third-person camera mode, which features a totally impractical “over the shoulder” perspective, the gameplay is pretty solid. It’s up to you to figure out which vehicle is best suited to each type of terrain and manage to overcome the pretty terrible muddy roads ahead.Ĭontrolling the trucks is great. The vast majority of those mills are located in the middle of forests and places with little to no vehicular infrastructure, though. Your objective is simple: select a vehicle, go to a designated spot, collect as much wood as you can, go to a mill and deliver said wood. ![]() Even though the game features some very upbeat rock tunes every now and then, you will mostly drive big pieces of metal that can barely reach 40 miles per hour due to all the logs of wood they’re carrying. The battles are fought out in the magical world of Oz, and it is here that Hosoda’s animation really comes into its own, ranging from the artfully drawn through to the amusingly abstract.ĭirector Mamoru Hosoda (who has critical and commercial success with his 2006 anime The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) has great fun with his complex storyline, while the film’s style is unexpectedly multi-layered, veering between simple – almost TV-style – animation for the contemporary Japan scenes and wild and inventive computer-generated imagery for sequences set inside the internet. Summer Wars is an exciting and absorbing new anime that looks set to appeal to the teen fraternity with its mix of spectacular visuals, thoughtful family-orientated subplot and an obsession with computer gaming. |
